I think this Mycoplasma Test nightmare is finally over (my STD story and tips)

My Success Story – Dale

I haven’t logged into this account in nearly 2 months because I feel like I’m in a dark place every time I have to talk about STI Lab tests and myself. Gen. I dealt with men’s test options from November 2019 until around April 2020, with lingering side effects afterwards. I got my Myco result, and it was the worst period of my life. I’m reminded almost daily, even though I don’t want to think about it. I sometimes am still paranoid that it’ll somehow come back like it did in January 2020, and psychologically, it’s very tiring.

This should have lasted no longer than 10-14 days max.

Still, instead, this ongoing ordeal of Mycoplasma Regular Test saga lasted around 6 months. It became a traumatic experience because the first incompetent urologist gave me drugs that weren’t even recommended for treatment (roxithromycin). I still don’t feel 100% recovered even now, as I think I still have some minor pelvic floor issues. Had I been prescribed the right STI drugs, this would have just been a simple lesson learned, not a traumatic one, and I doubt I’d have the same lingering symptoms or psychological trauma.

I want to thank everyone here on this subreddit who has ever helped me; also, I hope someone builds off of my previous post, Mycoplasma genitalium resource thread, and makes new versions of it (feel free to copy and paste it).

That said, I’m happy to be done with this.

I hope this post about Mycoplasma Infection Tests helps someone before I retire this account. I hope never to have to log back into it again after tonight. You can skip to the bottom to see where I’m currently at. Good look to all of you dealing with this; if there’s one person I’m especially rooting for, it’s LemonOne9, as he’s helped countless people.

It can be beat, somehow.

What I’ve learned:

So many urologists are clueless about m. gen and are the reason it’s becoming more resistant by prescribing the wrong drugs.

Mycoplasma Kit Testing negative doesn’t mean shit, unfortunately. I’ve had only 2-3 false negatives. Gen to come back.

Do your research for stuff like this

My recommendations

Take probiotics while on antibiotics; antibiotics kill the good bacteria, too.

Probiotics, such as olive leaf extract and garlic, could also help reset the balance if antibiotics mess up your gut bacteria.

Pretreating with doxy/mino for 7 days before doing macrolides and fluoroquinolones seems like the best bet for first treatment (assuming it’s not a resistant strain)

If possible, don’t do a monotherapy drug treatment period. Try to take more than one if your doctor allows you to. Resistance is scary. Take Mycoplasma Lab tests every week until you clean.

Looking back, I think the supplement saved me.

When I took it, I started feeling more inflammation near my right testicle and prostate, like I was herxing. The entire time, I thought that regular mGen testing might have shown it was gone, but it might not have been, and I truly believe Myco helped fight off the last stubborn remaining bacteria. More info and links to studies on the herbs inside here

If you have a serious case, buy and read Healing Lyme Disease Coinfections: Complementary and Holistic Treatments for Bartonella and the Mycoplasma PCR tests for more in-depth info on supplements that can help combat myco.

Taking NAC might help deal with cytokine storms, which mgen uses to get resources. You need to take at least 2,000 mg daily. I learned this from the book I linked above.

Berberine might be helpful while taking STI antibiotics and prevent efflux pump resistance from working. I also learned this from the book above.

If you’re a male, don’t ejaculate while you’re on treatment.

I feel like masturbation is what made mGen enter my prostate (see my story). I think ejaculation is only helpful if you already have it in your prostate and you need to help flush it out.

Meditation was helpful for me in keeping a positive mindset and convincing myself I could get through this.

If you’re taking a drug like moxi or any other fluoroquinolone antibiotic, taking vitamin E and magnesium can help with symptoms. You need to take it 4-8 hours after taking Moxi, though, so please google it, as I don’t recall it off the top of my head. No doctor or pharmacist bothered to mention this to me. By the way, I learned it from a study and the people r/floxies

Don’t take it around when you take Moxie; it will bind and make Moxi less effective.

Do not take Cipro form. Gen can make it resistant to the entire class of fluoroquinolones except for maybe sitafloxacin. I found this out after my Mycoplasma Home Test that week.

I also don’t recommend levofloxacin unless you can’t take grit, and you can combine it with doxycycline or minocycline.

Other supplements I was recommended to avoid being floxed from people at r/floxies: NAC, CoQ10 with PQQ, Alpha lipoic acid 600, MSM (Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane)

Try to consume as little sugar as possible while dealing with an agent infection, and make sure you have a Myco Kit to check it, too.

Get an STD Exam to check if you are cured or not, no earlier than 21 days to see if the infection is gone. If you’re a guy, ask your doctor if you can do a semen + urine test if you suspect it might be in your prostate.

My Entire Story

I documented this entire Mycoplasma Lab Test and treatment ordeal. My STI Home Test case of men is a bit strange because I haven’t been able to identify the source of the infection (Oddly, both women have not been positive for myco).

How did I get it? (background)

  • In early October 2019, I began seeing girl #1
  • I had unprotected sex and oral sex with girl #1
  • After the first night, my throat hurt for the next 1.5 weeks

Someone warned me about this girl, so after our last sexual encounter, I waited 8 days to get tested

I took an STD Urine Test (real-time PCR) 10 days after having sex

I had an exam and was negative for everything

Note: I believe this to be a false negative

I stopped seeing this girl immediately

A few weeks later, in late October 2019, I began seeing girl #2

Girl #2 and I only have unprotected oral sex

In early November, I started getting some pain in my penis, and one day, I got discharged. I didn’t have time to go to my normal urologist, so I went to the nearest one. I tested positive for some bacteria I had never heard of and thought it was minor. Man, was I wrong? Another STD home Test showed me it was back again.

If it were girl #1, I would take about 4 weeks. Gen symptoms to develop and means after 8 days, m. gen didn’t show on the urine PCR

If it was girl #2, it was 5-8 days after oral sex. However, it seems m.gen is rarely contracted through oral sex based on my research

The weird thing is they both tested negative for m. gen:

In December, after still being unable to find the source of my m. gen, my Mycoplasma Test timing was enough to indicate it was her, but there was no clear evidence. I messaged girl #1 to ask if she had been tested for any STDs. She sends me a picture of her recent results (Multiplex-PCR swab) :

  • Ureaplasma parvum (positive)
  • Gardnerella vaginalis (positive)
  • Chlamydia trachomatis (positive)

I still don’t know who I got it from, but it’s likely from girl #1. No idea why she didn’t Mycoplasma test positive later, though research indicates some women can clear it after a few months. What shitty timing for me, then.

Treatment #1 – Roxithromycin – 10 days [failed]

As I mentioned, I didn’t have time to go to my normal urologist, so I went to the one closest to my workplace. The doctor put me on a macrolide antibiotic called roxithromycin for 10 days.

Note: I have never seen this as a recommended treatment for m. gen and likely why it later came back

I take the meds for 7 days

On day 7, I took another PCR test (it was a Saturday, so we had to wait)

Even though my symptoms have subsided and discharge has stopped, he gives me another 3 days as we wait for the results

On November 19, 2019, I tested negative for everything, including M. gen

  • Post-treatment #1
  • Girl #2 gets Mycoplasma and comes up clean for everything except Gardnerella, so I suspect it’s girl #1
  • I went back to having unprotected oral sex with girl #2, and we finally started having sex. We used condoms
  • On December 5, 2019, I again felt something was off. I went back to my normal urologist and was tested for Myco.
  • Treatment #2 – Azithromycin 1G + clarithromycin for 14 days + doxycycline for 7 days [failed]

Mycoplasma tested positive again, and I explained my story to my urologist, and he thinks I got re-infected from girl #2. Though she’s been swabbed by her gyno, she does a urine test at my urologist. She tests negative for everything except Gardnerella. WTF?

I get 1G of azithromycin through an IV, then put on another macrolide clarithromycin for 14 days.

On December 18, 2019, I finished 2 weeks of clarithromycin, but I still don’t feel 100%

I asked for the previous meds but couldn’t remember the name (roxithromycin), thinking it had worked well the first time. However, since this is a different urologist, he didn’t know which meds the previous doctor put me on, so he gave me doxycycline for 7 days.

  • Even after 7 days of doxy, I still don’t feel 100%. However, I test negative for everything.
  • Another false negative
  • Post-treatment #2
  • A few days later, on December 26, 2019, I masturbated, and my prostate ballooned up
  • 2 days later, the swelling went down

I go to the hospital again on December 30, 2019, and get another test done and + a prostate massage

The test comes back negative

Prostatitis symptoms

For most of January, I have symptoms of prostatitis

Main symptoms:

  • Slight discomfort in the urethra
  • A small drop of urine sometimes comes out if squeezing the penis before peeing
  • Slight urinary incontinence (leaking urine)
  • Right, testicular discomfort?

On January 22, 2020, after a night of heavy drinking, I woke up briefly in the morning to feel prostate discomfort.

  • On January 23, 2020, I was discharged again. WTF?
  • I test positive again for m. gen

Treatment #3 (clarithromycin, roxithromycin) [failed]

I was once again put on clarithromycin for 2 weeks, which had no effect. Discharge remained even after 1 week of taking meds

I found out the name from the STD test report of the first drug I took by asking the pharmacy I had visited to check my prescription record (roxithromycin). I asked my doctor again because I mistakenly thought it was effective the first time. Roxithromycin also has no effect, and I keep having discharge

I conclude STDs such as Mgen had become resistant to macrolides antibiotics, likely due to being prescribed shitty roxithromycin back in November or because of Azithromycin in December.

With these macrolides not working, I go to another doctor.

This naive doctor said M. Gen was nothing to worry about and gave me 7 days of Cipro. Luckily, I stopped taking Cipro after someone here linked me to a study. It said that Cipro could cause STD resistance to the entire class of fluoroquinolones, which is now my best bet, in particular, Moxi.

Treatment #4 pt I: (Moxi for 1 day, levofloxacin, levofloxacin + doxycycline)

With none of these macrolides working, I ask my regular doctor for something stronger.

On February 6, 2020, my doctor finally made me get STD Lab tested again. And he put me on levofloxacin as he thought m.gen had reached my prostate. Discharge finally goes away.

I also begin taking Samara’s biofilm herbal extract formula powder just in case, along with Olive Leaf extract and

However, while doing more research, I read that levofloxacin doesn’t have a good clearance rate for STD lab Exams; it only has a 50-70% success rate and could cause resistance to other fluoroquinolones.

I asked for moxi and tried it for one day.

He was willing to work with me as I showed him all my research.

My body did not like Moxi. I had taken levofloxacin in the past for prostate infection (e. coli) with no issues and up to now had no issues. Though moxi is in the same class of antibiotics, my body did not handle it well. I got a ton of muscle spasms, shooting sensations, and trouble sleeping.

Note: Symptoms eventually went away, and I think these supplements helped!

Things get better, but it still doesn’t feel perfect after 6 weeks. Every time I ejaculated, I still felt weird symptoms and still didn’t feel 100%

Treatment #4 part II: (sitafloxacin + minocycline + Myco supplement) [Success]

With the fear of the STD Home kits needs coming back like before, just to be safe, I wanted to stay on antibiotics and a regular Mycoplasma PCR testing regime set up with a local lab.

  • I got 3 weeks’ worth of sitafloxacin from Japan. It is supposed to be highly effective.
  • I also saw a Japanese study saying minocycline was also supposed to be effective for resistant strains.
  • I took sitafloxacin + minocycline for the last 3 weeks as my best bet to make sure m. Gen never comes back

After 3 days, I feel no different from before. No bad symptoms, so it seems like I’m on my way to a full STD recovery.
