However, women may experience painful sex, bleeding after sex, and vaginal discharge. Men may experience inflammation of the urethra, a burning sensation while urinating, and discharge oozing out of the penis.
  • Q: But how is it spread?

  • Q: And what are the complications of this infection?

    • A: The main complications are pelvic inflammatory disease and sexually acquired reactive arthritis.
  • Q: But if I am pregnant, does it affect my baby?

  • A: It is linked to preterm birth and miscarriage. Also, you may pass the infection to the baby during delivery.
  • Q: Also, who should be checked for this infection?

Accuracy

The accuracy of any of our diagnostic tests is defined as the combination of sensitivity and specificity variables. Sensitivity is the test’s ability to confirm positive results; specificity eliminates negative results. All our tests are validated with high accuracy (up to 98.5%).

Variables

Accuracy can be affected by various factors that our lab cannot control. Infection intensity, patient health, and sample quality, dependent on adherence to “home testing” procedures, can all limit the test results. Although our tests are extremely sensitive, a poor-quality swab makes it harder to detect the presence of infection, as fewer viral particles will be present. Please carefully consider the information sheet accompanying your sample collection kit to ensure a high-quality sample.

Detection

The Mycoplasma PCR detection test can detect the presence of the Mycoplasma genitalium bacteria to a high degree of accuracy. The test uses a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplifying method to detect the presence of the pathogen.

Positive result

A positive result suggests the presence of viral particles in the sample during testing. Upon receiving positive results, we advise you to contact your healthcare provider for treatment. You can also gain a prescription through our website. It is possible the Mycoplasma genitalium bacteria do not present symptoms of the disease, but you may still be infectious to others.

Negative result

While this can provide reassurance, it is important to understand its significance. This means the test did not detect the presence of infection at the time of testing. Results should still be discussed with a healthcare provider while considering lifestyle and sexual history. If you are in contact with someone who tests positive for the disease or begins to present symptoms consistent with the disease, you should contact your GP.

Do You Know that You’re Not Alone?

Folks have shared some stories with you.

  • Mycoplasma Genotalia vs M. Pneumonia

What happened in France? A boom in cases: France.

While data on undiagnosed childhood pneumonia in China continues to be incomplete, a significant and abnormal increase in cases has also been recorded in recent weeks in other Asian countries, such as Vietnam, and in Europe, especially in France, where the infection has grown aggressively by 36% in children and young people under 15 years of age.

  • France: alarm over the pneumonia bacterium

It is confirmed that the etiologically responsible agent of the cases across the Alps has been identified as pneumonia.

This known bacterium constantly mutates and is a common cause of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).

According to infectious disease specialists, it is a widespread pathogen that has not circulated epidemically for 10 years. However, Experts are alarmed by the risks linked to antibiotic resistance, a global phenomenon that has worried the scientific community for years.

The antibiotic commonly used for this type of pneumonia – azithromycin, which is long-acting – is resistant worldwide, but no updated data on resistance rates are currently available. “Unfortunately, we do not have sufficient information to measure them due to the lack of circulation of the bacteria, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic,”

The Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the Tenon Hospital in Paris announced in a statement.

The scientific community agrees that the increase in respiratory infections in children in various countries is caused by a post-pandemic immune gap, which exposes them to a greater risk of contracting common infections such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Since Mycoplasma pneumonia seems only to affect children and does not affect the adult population, experts also believe that a new pathogen is not circulating. This is also confirmed by the scientific director of the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases (SIMIT), Professor Massimo Andreoni, according to whom if we were faced with an unknown germ, there would be an evident increase in cases in every age group, because everyone would be equally immune as happened with Sars-CoV-2.

However, since it has been rather rare to identify real outbreaks.

Mycoplasma test kits find some as pneumonia; pneumonia believes that the epidemic trend of these infections is due to a simultaneous circulation of other seasonal viruses, as confirmed by the Chinese authorities.

According to the general director of health prevention at the Ministry of Health, Francesco Vaia, Italy has no alarm. However, it is expected that our country will also see an increase in cases of pneumonia and bronchiolitis in the coming weeks.
It is therefore necessary to continue careful surveillance using Mycoplasma test kits and consider that we can implement measures that can prevent pneumonia, such as using masks in the community, which are once again recommended in France.

The symptoms of pneumonia, both bacterial and viral, are flu-like and resemble those of Covid. Fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue appear. In the case of mycoplasma pneumonia, the cough is deep and persistent, and the breathing problems can even be serious.

Airborne, the bacterium persists, after the acute infection, in a long asymptomatic phase which can last weeks and months, during which it passes from person to person through direct contact and infected respiratory droplets. After exposure, incubation is approximately 23 days, and acquired immunity is short.

What does it mean when the spread of infection within the family is around 90%?

The therapy is specific to antibiotics that do not act on the bacterial wall since it is absent in mycoplasmas. Macrolides, tetracyclines or fluoroquinolones are therefore used. But since many antibiotics cannot be administered in pediatric age, azithromycin, clarithromycin and doxycycline, all belonging to the category of macrolides, are preferably indicated.

However, resistance to macrolides has been found in all continents, sometimes with very high percentages, such as in China, where over 80% of subjects affected by this pneumonia do not respond to therapy.

Studies show that children affected by infections from strains resistant to macrolides present more severe and persistent symptoms than those infected by strains sensitive to these drugs. Doctors universally believe that adequate measures should be taken to curb such resistance.

Otherwise, it will lead to a very dangerous situation where no drugs will be available for pediatric patients.

Using other types of antibiotics also increases the likelihood that additional multi-resistant strains will emerge, making other common infections difficult or impossible to treat. MGen Mycoplasma Test Kits are the first step, says WHO. They have underlined that this significantly increases the risk of the general spread of infections, which, in the absence of adequate therapy, can lead to serious illnesses and even death. Some studies suggest that the treatment of Mycoplasma pneumonia pneumonia could be oriented towards a short-acting macrolide, erythromycin, but the expected results require a long-term process.
