What does it detect?

Ferritin is a protein that stores iron and is an acute phase reactant coordinating cellular defence against oxidative stress and inflammation. A ferritin result helps your doctor determine how much iron your body stores. And to anticipate and monitor iron deficiency.

What does it measure?

A lower-than-usual ferritin level indicates your body’s iron stores are typical and you have iron deficiency. As a result, you could be anaemic.

High Ferritin levels can indicate damage to your organs, such as the liver and spleen.

High Level

The following conditions may cause ferritin’s high levels:

  • Acute/chronic liver disease.
  • Infection.
  • Inflammation.
  • Alcoholism.
  • Hyperthyroidism.
  • Gaucher disease.
  • Myocardial infection.
  • Iron overload (hemochromatosis).
  • End-stage kidney disease.
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma.
  • Megaloblastic anaemia, hemolytic anaemia, thalassemia.

Low Level

Ferritin’s low levels may be caused by the following:

  • Iron deficiency.
  • Hemodialysis.

What are the Instructions for use?

Please take your sample in the morning. Take it at least one hour before any medication. Do not take biotin supplements for two days before this test.

When you collect your sample, try the following tips:

  • Drink plenty of water. Being well-hydrated will make it easier to collect your sample.
  • Shower before you take your test or run your hands under warm water for a few minutes, as heat improves blood flow.
  • Do light exercise (move around, walk, etc.) to get the blood flowing.
  • Ensure your arm is below your heart level – let gravity do some of the work.
  • Nails that are too long can make it difficult to collect a sample.
  • Do not shake the sample vigorously, but invert the tube gently ten times. (gently swirl the tube after each drop of blood).
  • Do not squeeze the finger (milk).
  • Re-warm your hands during collection where needed.

What are the common questions?

  • Q: What is it?

    • A: It is a protein which shows whether you have too much or too little iron and needs a ferritin blood test kit result to detect the changes.
  • Q: What happens to your body when your levels are low?

    • A: Low levels lead to iron deficiency anaemia.
  • Q: How can I raise my levels quickly?

    • A: Incorporating meat into at least one meal daily has shown rising levels in several people.
  • Q: What causes it to drop?

    • A: A lower-than-normal level can indicate an iron deficiency, which can happen when you don’t consume enough iron in your daily diet.
  • Q: Does stress affect my levels?

    • A: Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress may act as a link between elevated levels, which can contribute to cellular or tissue damage.
  • Q: Do hormones affect my levels?

    • A: Some research showed that serum levels were negatively associated with sex hormones.

What is our not-alone shared Story?

Because it is one of the essential proteins

“He is currently in good health.”

It is the first question submitted in the medical history questionnaires to volunteers before being able to donate blood. Before each donation, the doctor assesses the volunteer’s physical condition, including through a quick haemoglobin and Ferritin Blood Test Kits.

You can prepare for your blood sampling in case there are no contraindications. The main component of the red blood cells is the haemoglobin, whose job is to transport the oxygen in your body.

Therefore, you must keep an eye on it and test it quite often.

Iron deficiency results from low levels of haemoglobin. But you shouldn’t worry. You can also take an Iron test to check the levels and have a peaceful mind.

For the correct mechanism functioning, ferritin, a spherical protein within which iron is deposited, is essential. It is not just a “warehouse” but also a “manager.

Ferritin is, in fact, able to store iron and, if necessary, quickly release it into the body.

If the ferritin value does not fall within the parameters, it may indicate a haemoglobin deficiency responsible for anaemia. If your haemoglobin is low, you cannot donate blood. The average ferritin values in an adult differ between men and women: women: 20-120 nanograms/mL; men: 20-200 nanograms/mL.

How do we recognise an iron deficiency?

There are plenty of symptoms, but the most common is if you feel tired every time. If the ferritin doesn’t have enough iron to release for a longer period, then anaemia can happen.

A good lifestyle and a balanced diet are a must for good health.

Various causes lead to low ferritin levels; the most common, without considering pathologies or particular conditions, are due to nutritional deficits.

Because of this, you should eat meat, fish, vegetables, and dried and fresh fruits (citrus are very important as, thanks to Vitamin C, they allow iron absorption). If your iron deficiency is significant, you should also take some supplements.

You can choose from syrups, tablets and drops.

Even a high level of ferritin (hyperferritinemia) can be an indicator of pathologies or inflammatory states for which a medical consultation is always necessary. In this case, you can have a low iron diet or be rich in chelating substances that bind to iron and allow it to be eliminated easily in your urine.

You must know how to lead a healthy life and care for your body!
