Description
What is a Cholesterol blood test?
A complete cholesterol test, also known as a lipid profile, is a blood test that can measure the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood. This test is conducted as a part of a cardiovascular risk assessment or cardiovascular monitoring, in cases of Pancreatitis or in cases of monitoring response to treatments.
Who is affected by cardiovascular disease?
It is estimated that more than half of the UK population will get some circulatory condition in their lifetime. You are at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease if you have:
- Diabetes/pre-diabetics, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Underactive thyroid gland.
- Family history of high cholesterol or heart disease.
- Suffer from obesity.
- Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol.
- Have high blood pressure.
Instructions for use
Please take your sample in the morning. Take it at least one hour before any medication.
5 Biomarkers:
✓ Total cholesterol: the total amount of cholesterol present in the blood.
✓ LDL cholesterol: Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is known as “bad” cholesterol. High LDL levels raise your risk of stroke, heart attack and atherosclerosis.
✓ HDL cholesterol: High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is known as “good” cholesterol as it helps eliminate LDL from the blood.
✓ Triglycerides: Triglycerides are the body’s form of fat storage, most of which are found in fatty tissues and circulating in the blood to act as fuel for muscles to work.
✓ Total cholesterol/ HDL cholesterol: the ratio of cholesterol/ HDL is used to measure cardiovascular risk.
