Accuracy

The accuracy of any of our diagnostic tests is defined as the combination of sensitivity and specificity variables. Sensitivity is the test’s ability to confirm positive results, specificity is the ability to eliminate negative results. All of the tests we offer are validated to a high degree of accuracy (up to 98.5%).

Variables

Accuracy can be affected by a variety of factors that cannot be controlled by our lab. Infection intensity, patient health, and quality of the sample which is dependent on the adherence to “home testing” procedures can all be factors that limit the results of the test. Although our tests are extremely sensitive, a poor-quality swab makes it harder to detect the presence of infection, as fewer viral particles will be present. Please carefully consider the information sheet accompanying your sample collection kit to ensure a high-quality sample.

Detection

The Chlamydia trachomatis PCR detection test is designed to accurately detect the presence of Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria in the sample.

Any diagnosis should be discussed with your healthcare provider. Results from the Medicines Online screening laboratory are intended to be viewed in conjunction with a patient’s medical history, diet, genetics, lifestyle, and other factors that may influence test results which should be shared with your GP when discussing these results.

Positive result

A positive result suggests the presence of viral particles in the sample, at the time of testing. Upon the receipt of positive results, we advise you to contact your healthcare provider for treatment. You can also gain a prescription through our website. It is possible the Ureaplasma urealyticum bacteria do not present symptoms of the disease, but you may still be infectious to others.

Negative result

While this can provide reassurance, it is important to understand its significance. This means the test did not detect the presence of infection at the time of testing. Results should still be discussed with a healthcare provider while considering lifestyle and sexual history. If you are in contact with someone who tests positive for the disease or begin to present symptoms consistent with the disease, you should contact your GP.

Questions and Answers for Chlamydia Trachomatis

The Symptoms, Transmission and the Treatment

Hello, my name is Terry, and I have discovered that I was infected with Chlamydia for 1 year.

I’ve only had one boyfriend in my life, so now we both follow treatments to defeat the virus.

I kept thinking, and I am sure that if I have never had sexual relationships with another man, then I must have taken the infection through my boyfriend. So, I ask you: is it possible that he was cheating on me with other women? Or is it an infection which can evolve from not treated candida “like in my case”?

I would be grateful for your opinion!

Dr Robert Gindro: “Transmission can occur sexually or at the time of birth between mother and child.”

Terry and his chlamydia

I don’t know how I got it, but I know that chlamydia put me through hell: it started as an itch, quickly replaced by one of the most terrible smells I’ve ever experienced. You know when they say that the vagina tastes like fish? Well, it’s an observation that I thought was unrealistic—and I had always wondered where that idea came from. I understood this with chlamydia. Because my lower parts did not simply give off a fishy smell, but of rotten fish, so much so that even my boyfriend at the time, who did nothing but tell me when he liked the smells of my body, was careful not to propose to me to do sex. I was a little embarrassed and interested in doing it. But the worst thing which happened that day was when my boss walked to my desk. He wanted to talk about a delivery and remained behind me for a few minutes. I kept thinking of that smell heading towards his nostrils from below. I would have felt more comfortable naked, probably. In the end, he didn’t give the impression of smelling anything. It took me about two weeks to get rid of it, and now I am extra careful. I use protection because if left untreated, it can cause other infections. For now, thankfully, Chlamydia did not come back to haunt me.

Henry and his gonorrhoea

I may be particularly unlucky, but I got an STD the same day I lost my virginity. And it wasn’t even a small thing: that day, I lost my virginity and gained gonorrhoea. Let me explain: like so many young men anxious to become ‘real’ men, condoms were not the first of my worries. Today, thanks to that experience, I pay much more attention, and fortunately, I have never had STDs again. And I hope I never have any again.

The burning sensations when urinating, the pus, and the fact that any movement was a potential source of pain was nothing compared to what I had to do to heal myself. In theory, everything is done with antibiotics, but my doctor wanted to complicate things by sticking a swab up and down into my urethra. The girls will perhaps not have a very precise idea of the pain that can be felt in those cases, while I am sure that they will understand – and at this moment, they will be on the verge of fainting. So, my friends, ask yourself a simple question before you take action without protection. Would you want the risk to end up the same? Trust me, you do not want that.

Sam and his candida

Technically, Candida is not an STD, but sometimes it can be passed from one person to another during sexual intercourse. I’ve always been attentive to hygiene and health, used protection when having sex and never had any issues. But, as people say, the flesh is weak, and after a very long time of not having sex after a breakup -six months- when it came to the opportunity of having an amazing night having sex, I jumped at it like crazy. Except I did it with the wrong guy. He had passed himself off as a photographer, and after a nude shooting to which I had volunteered (yes, I know), I did it because I liked him. Even though we did not have protection, we had sexual intercourse, and after a while, I ended up having candida. I was so angry at myself for not only making myself a fool (as he never called me again) but also because I was left with an infection. Two days later, the final blow: the boy I had had a crush on since immemorial was finally interested in me, and we ended up in bed. Too bad it was the worst sex I’ve ever had: it burned so much, and the next morning, out of shame, I snuck out of his house like a thief. In the meantime, the gynaecologist administered a therapy based on creams, suppositories and… abstinence. After six months, I could have waited a little longer, right? Not that I had a choice, nor that I could complain about the punishment of karma (for having sex without a condom, of course. And for having it with a photographer).

Julie and his HPV

Don’t know what HVP is? Too bad for you. The Human papillomavirus is a large group of viruses; catching it is very easy. Fortunately, however, not all types of HPV are dangerous, and while some are linked to the risk of cancer, others do nothing or are very annoying. I experienced the latter courtesy of my first boyfriend, who had slept with someone else without a condom. After finding out about the cheating, I left him, but not before my gynaecologist diagnosed me with an HPV infection with warts. This type of HVP, which is among the low-risk types, manifests itself through warts around the genital area that burn and cause itching, and laser therapy may be necessary to get rid of them. As long as the laser works on the external areas, it’s ok. But in the vagina, it’s a whole different story. In addition to this, this infection with warts means that hygiene precautions must be raised to the maximum: never use the same towel twice, always wash it at high temperatures together with your underwear and be careful so that it does not spread to other areas, like the anus. Even with all these, you cannot be sure that the infection has completely disappeared and cannot return. And I say this because it happened. So I have some advice: don’t go for the guys who will cheat on you, use protection and take those relevant tests occasionally.
